The Governor of California is jogging with his dog along a nature trail. A coyote jumps out and attacks the Governor's dog, then bites the Governor.

1. The Governor starts to intervene, but reflects upon the movie "Bambi" and then realizes he should stop because the coyote is only doing what is natural.
2. He calls animal control. Animal Control captures the coyote and bills the State $200 testing it for diseases and $500 for relocating.
3. He calls a veterinarian. The vet collects the dead dog and bills the State $200 testing it for diseases.
4. The Governor goes to hospital and spends $3,500 getting checked for diseases from the coyote and on getting his bite wound bandaged.
5. The running trail gets shut down for 6 months while Fish & Game conducts a $100,000 survey to make sure the area is now free of dangerous animals.
6. The Governor spends $50,000 in state funds implementing a "coyote awareness program" for residents of the area.
7. The State Legislature spends $2 million to study how to better treat rabies and how to permanently eradicate the disease throughout the world.
8. The Governor's security agent is fired for not stopping the attack. The State spends $150,000 to hire and train a new agent with additional special training re: “The nature of coyotes.”
9. PETA protests the coyote's relocation and files a $5 million suit against the State.

I got my Elk today.. I would like to tell you how I got up at 0500, made a lunch and headed for the woods. Got out of the truck at 0800 and hiked for 4 hours. Watched a heard of Elk for 2 hours and then belly crawled for 200 yards. Had one shot at 1200 yards and placed it right behind the front shoulder and dropped the bull like a rock. Hauled it out in four pieces on our back, which took about 4 hours but in all actuality, I got up at 0600. Grabbed a couple of soda's and headed for the hills at 0700.. At 0759, I came around a corner in the mountains and the bull was standing 125 yards on the uphill side of the road. I stepped out of my Blazer, chambered a round, put the cross-hair right behind the front shoulder, and squeezed off a shot. I knew I hit him hard but he wheeled around and headed for the timber. We lost site of him and decided to drive up the road about a hundred yards before we went after him. We came around the next corner and guess what.. The bull was laying right in the middle of the road. Didn't have to drag him an inch. Backed the truck up to him and loaded him up.. One of the easier elk I have shot.. The elk is weird, he has four nice points on one side and a spike and a drop tine with a big knob on the other side.

Montana woman fends off bear attack with zucchini

A Montana woman fended off a bear trying to muscle its way into her home Thursday by pelting the animal with a large piece of zucchini from her garden.
The woman suffered minor scratches and one of her dogs was wounded after tussling with the 200-pound bear.
The attack happened just after midnight when the woman let her three dogs into the backyard for their nighttime ritual before she headed to bed, Missoula County Sheriff's Lt. Rich Maricelli said. Authorities believe the black bear was just 25 yards away, eating apples from a tree.
Two of the dogs sensed the bear, began barking and ran away, Maricelli said. The third dog, a 12-year-old collie that wasn't very mobile, remained close to the woman as she stood in the doorway of the home near Frenchtown in western Montana.
Before she knew what was happening, the bear was on top of the dog and batting the collie back and forth, Maricelli said.
"She kicked the bear with her left leg as hard as she could, and she said she felt like she caught it pretty solidly under the chin," Maricelli said.
But as she kicked, the bruin swiped at her leg with its paw and ripped her jeans.
The bear then turned its full attention to the woman in the doorway. She retreated into the house and tried to close the door, but the bear stuck its head and part of a shoulder through the doorway.
The woman held onto the door with her right hand. With her left, she reached behind and grabbed a 14-inch zucchini that she had picked from her garden earlier and was sitting on the kitchen counter, Maricelli said.
She threw the vegetable. It bopped the bruin on the top of its head and the animal fled, Maricelli said.
The woman called for help from a relative staying with her. They found the collie outside, unable to move, and took it to a veterinarian.
The dog appeared to be fine on Thursday, but the vet was keeping it for observation, Maricelli said.
The woman did not need medical attention for the scratches on her leg, though she got a tetanus shot as a precaution, Maricelli said.
Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks officials set up a trap in an attempt to capture the bear, the agency said in a statement.
Besides the nearby fruit trees, there wasn't anything on the woman's property that would attract a bear into the backyard, like garbage or livestock feed, wildlife officials said.
Maricelli interviewed the woman, but said the sheriff's office was complying with her wish not to identify her.
"She was very, very shaken, and it kind of took the humor portion out of it for me," Maricelli said. "She said it had this horrific growl and was snarling.
"(But) she can see the humor in it, and she wanted the story put out so the local residents can take precautionary measures," he added.

My wife and I took a little trip to Salt Lake City this week. We decided to take the long way home so we turned off at Blackfoot Idaho and head north to Arco Idaho. We followed the Salmon river through canyons and rocks and it was breath taking scenery. We then went North to the community of Salmon Idaho, where we spent the night. The next morning, we took off and headed towards Wisdom Montana. The highway between Salmon Idaho and Wisdom Montana was nothing but switch backs and sharp curves. It took us 1 hour and 38 minutes to go 40 miles. The scenery was awsum though and that made up for the crappy road. It was a nice trip. It looked like the steal head salmon where biting in the Salmon river because there about 50 vehicles parked by 1 deep hole..

The game warden was there and guessed the age to be 7-8 years? He said it should be a 38 point rack? I did not count.
This will probably be the new state record according to the warden. It will be pictured in Nebraska Land Magazine n December. The guy that
shot it was in his mid 20s. A guy around 60 congratulated him and told him to cherish this because he has never seen anything like it in his years of hunting.

A touching hunting story

A hunter and his friend were sitting in a tall tower stand along Highway 64 near Sturgeon Falls, Ontario, early one cold December morning.

Suddenly, a huge buck walked out over the corn they had spread in the low shrubs; the buck was magnificent..... a once in a lifetime animal.
His rack was huge.

The hunter's hand shook as his mind was already counting the Boone and Crockett points.

Moving quickly, the hunter carefully aimed the Leopold scope on his .300 Win Mag at the unsuspecting buck.

As he was about to squeeze the trigger on this deer of a lifetime, his friend alerted him to a funeral procession passing slowly down Highway 64.

The hunter pulled away from the gunstock, set the rifle down, took off his hat, bowed his head and then closed his eyes in prayer.
His friend was stunned.

"Wow, that is the most thoughtful and touching thing I have ever seen you do.

You actually let that trophy deer go to pay respects to a passing funeral procession.

You are indeed the kindest man I have ever known, and I feel lucky to call you a friend."

The hunter shrugged. "Yeah, well, we were married for 37 years."

Here's a picture of the new world record whitetail. It was taken by the cousin of a co-worker's sister's, uncle's, best friend's, son-in-law's cousin. Reportedly it will score 2603-1/8 by B&C standard and was shot in West Texas on a really windy day around a curve. Supposedly, this deer had killed a Brahma bull, two Land Rovers and six Jehovah's Witnesses in the last two weeks alone. They said it was winning a fight with Bigfoot when it was shot.

The moose in the photo is an Alaska-Yukon moose taken by Eric Arnette on September 5th. It was taken in the

Kilbuck Mountains which is 380 miles west of Anchorage , AK . The rack is approximately 75 inches wide, has about 36
countable points, and was unofficially scored by a person who is not an Official Measurer at around 264 points. In the near future

it'll be posted on the Boone and Crockett Club's website on "Trophy Watch" where the official score will be announced once it is entered.

A motorist drove his pickup truck through a herd of bighorn sheep on Highway 1, about 7 miles west of Anaconda, late Monday morning, killing at least eight animals, according to the Montana Highway Patrol.

The driver, of Anaconda, wasn't injured or identified, said trooper Tom Gill.

Montana wildlife personnel were looking for other sheep Monday afternoon that left the crash scene after being injured. More sheep deaths are expected, Gill said.

Two of the dead animals were trophy rams, according to state wildlife biologist Ray Vinkey.

The driver, an adult male, was cited with a misdemeanor traffic ticket. Alcohol wasn't a factor in the incident, the patrol said.

Gill said the driver was westbound toward Georgetown Lake when the collision occurred.

"He was not paying attention to the large signs saying ‘watch out for sheep on the road,' and didn't slow down," Gill said.

The driver claimed the sun was in his eyes and he didn't see the sheep in the roadway, according to Gill. The herd was hit about 11:45 a.m.

The driver was cited with failure to obey a traffic signal. Two, large electronic signs on the eastbound and westbound sides of the highway warn motorists to be award of bighorn sheep on the road.

The sheep often gather on that stretch of roadway to lick salt, which is put there by road crews to melt ice.

Gill said the driver's truck incurred light damage.

Apparently a bear attacked his plane while parked in a remote field up here in AK. He had not cleaned out the inside after a long fishing trip and the bear smelled it.

He had 2 new tires, 3 cases of Duct Tape and several rolls of cellophane delivered. Then went about repairing the plane so he could fly it home.

Gutsy to say the least.

Montana Governor signs HB 228

Here's what we got:

1. A clear policy statement by the Legislature that self defense is a natural right and that self defense by citizens reduces crime.

2. A clear policy statement by the Legislature that the right to bear arms in Montana is a fundamental (important legal term) and individual right.

3. Reversal of guilty-until-proven-innocent for people defending themselves. This provision requires the state to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that a person defending herself or himself was NOT justified in using force, rather than before, that defenders must have proven that they were justified in using force. Trust me, this is very important.

4. Legislative declaration of policy that a defender has no duty to summon help or flee before using force to defend, in any place the defender is lawfully.

5. Open carry is legal. This has been presumed in Montana, but never stated in law. People have been arrested for open carry. HB 228 will settle that issue for good.

6. A defender may announce "I have a gun," with no more fear of prosecution under Montana's overbroad felony "Intimidation" statute.

7. Defensive display. A person may show an attacker that the defender is armed, and may even draw the gun and still be clearly on the right side of the legal line if the defender genuinely fears attack.

8. Requirement that when police investigate a scene where self defense is claimed, investigators must collect evidence that may support a claim of self defense as well as any other evidence.

9. Improved conditions for a defender to use force in any occupied structure. This applies to all occupied structures, not just a dwelling.

10. Police may not destroy any firearms seized. Any firearms seized must either be returned to the rightful owner or sold back into the marketplace.

11. Landlords may not prevent tenants from possessing firearms. This not only protects travelers staying in motels, but also protects those who cannot afford to own their own homes.

12. Restoration of the right to bear arms for people convicted of non-violent crimes who have done their time and been released from state supervision. This will not apply to a person who committed a crime of violence or a crime where a weapon was used.

13. The ability to use reasonable force to effect the citizen's arrest of a person believed to have committed a crime - to be able to hold the person until law enforcement can be summoned (as happened recently in Thompson Falls).

14. An immediate effective date. All of this became effective while the ink from the Governor's signature was drying.

A friend and I went for a little ride yesterday looking for a coyote or something to shoot at, when we jumped this herd of Elk and small group of mule deer . It appears they made it pretty good through the winter. One of them will look good in my freezer this Fall.

In Montana, there is a policy of checking on any stalled vehicle on the highway when temperatures drop to single digits or lower. About 3 A.M. one very cold morning, Montana State Trooper, Allan Nixon #658, responded to a call, there was a car off the shoulder of the highway, just outside of Great Falls, Montana. He located the car, stuck in deep snow with the engine running. Pulling in behind the car with his emergency lights on, the trooper walked towards the drivers door to find an older man passed out behind the wheel with a nearly empty Vodka bottle on the seat next to him. The driver awoke when the trooper tapped on his window with his flashlight. Seeing the rotating lights in his rear window, and the state trooper standing next to his car, the guy panicked. He jerked the shifter into drive and stepped on the gas.
The cars speedometer was showing 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50 Miles per hour but the car was still stuck and wasn't moving. Trooper Nixon, having a sense of humor, began running in place next to speeding (but stationary) car. The driver was totally freaked, thinking the trooper was actually keeping up with him on foot. This goes on for about 30 seconds, when the trooper yelled over to him to PULLOVER.
The man nodded his head, turned the wheel and stopped the engine. Needless to say, the man was arrested and is probably still shaking his head over the state trooper in Montana, that could run 50 mph

Who says Troopers can't have fun once in a while.....
